Unlike the S-shaped pattern of Types 2 & 3, Type 4 has a Z-shaped, zig zag pattern and afro texture. Although tightly coiled, Type 4 hair is fragile due to its wiry, delicate nature and because its usually manipulated more to detangle, define and style. While usually ranging from thick to dense and tightly coiled at the roots, and usually chronically dry.The hair is generally healthy, but difficult to manage and keep hydrated. When well moisturized and conditioned, Type 4 hair looks and feels amazing, and can achieve a variety of styling choices.Oil-based maintenance and styling products are recommended. A hydrating shampoo and deep conditioner followed by moisturizing leave-in and curl products will give you the manageability needed to slay your favorite style.
